Deepika Padukone to play acid attack survivor Laxmi

Deepika Padukone to play acid attack survivor LaxmiDeepika Padukone is going to play the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in next film. The actress who won million of hearts with her wonderful performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s periodic drama Padmaavat, has given her green signal for essaying the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in  Meghna Gulzar directorial Venture. Apart from acting,  Deepika Padukone will also be producing the movie.

Laxmi Agarwal is an acid attack survivor and speaks for the rights of acid attack victims. She is an Indian campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks and a TV host.

 Laxmi Agarwal was attacked in 2005 by a 32-year-old man Gudda and his alias Naeem Khan whose advances she had rejected. She was just 15 years old she was attacked. She had to undergo several surgeries. Later, the brave girl helped acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop acid attacks.

In 2014, Laxmi Agarwal also received International Woman of Courage award from Michelle Obama, US’ then first lady and was also named NDTV Indian of the Year.

 During the media interaction, Deepika Padukone opened up about this movie and said, “When I heard the story, I decided to act. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to become the producer.”

Meghna Gulzar’s previous directorial Raazi in which  Alia Bhatt played the lead role, was hit at the box office.   She feels that  the story of Laxmi Agarwal needs to be told to bring awareness in the society.  According to Meghna Gulzar, Deepika Padukone is one who has ability to justice to the character and the story.” The director further said, Deepika Padukone’s matched physically with what she has imagined for Laxmi Agarwal’s character.

On the personal front, if ongoing buzz in media and film Industry, Deepika Padukone is all set to tie the knot with Ranveer Singh in the month of November
