On Tuesday, the cop arrested a man from Coimbatore after making phone calls with bomb threats and claiming that the bombs had been placed at the residences of Kollywood Superstar Rajinikanth and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Poes Garden, Chennai.
According to the police report, Muhammad Ali, the man who has been arrested for making phone calls, is suffering from mental health-related problems.
As the Chennai police received the bomb threat to the residences of the two celebrities – Rajinikanth and J Jayalalithaa’ houses, they conducted a search operation at the locations.
The police say that on Tuesday evening, at around 6 pm, the police control room of the Chennai Metropolitan Police had received a call in which an unidentified person had claimed that the bombs will go off shortly at the residences of J Jayalalithaa and Rajinikanth. After delivering the message, the caller had abruptly cut the call. The police were shocked after receiving the information and immediately they alerted their senior officers. On their orders, they searched the residences of Jayalalithaa and Rajinikanth by a team comprising the bomb-detection squad. After the search they did not find explosives.
Meanwhile they learnt that this was done to spread rumours and create panic. Later the the police investigated the prank and found that the call had originated from Coimbatore. Further enquiries using the number that the call was made from, the police came to know that a youth in Coimbatore made that threat call.
The Chennai arrested the youth and later he revealed that his name is Mohammed Ali, a native of Coimbatore and he informed the police that due to his mental depression he had made that call saying there is a bomb threat to the residences of Jayalalithaa and Rajinikanth. The Police are further investigating the matter.
