KCR takes Oath.. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to be Telangana Assembly Speaker

Telangana MLAs took oath in Legislative Assembly today. First Assembly Session in the 2nd Term following the creation of Telangana Statehood started Today at 11.30 AM.  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was the first to take the oath as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as the session was chaired by pro-tem Speaker Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). After him, other MLAs took oath in alphabetical order.

Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the senior most member of the Assembly, on Wednesday took oath as the pro-tem Speaker.

Raja Singh, a firebrand leader and lone BJP MLA in Telangana has already announced that he will not take oath from Mumtaz Khan as his party was against Hindus. He said, “This is my personal decision and will take it to the notice of party high command.” Bhartiya Janatha Party (BJP) had contested in 118 out of 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana and lost all of them with an exception to Goshamahal constituency, from where Raja Singh won.

Before the beginning of the Assembly session, KCR and all MLAs of the TRS paid tributes at the Telangana Martyrs’ memorial in front of the Assembly building.

KCR finalised the name of Six-time Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA and former agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy for the Speaker post of the newly-constituted state assembly in Telangana after holding the consultations for several days.

TRS bagged 88 seats in the 119-member Assembly.

Out of the total strength of 119, as many as 114 MLAs took their oath today on Thursday.

The TRS had won 88 MLAs, Congress 19, MIM 7, Telugu Desam Party(TDP) and independents 2 each and the Bharatiya Janata Party won only 1 seat in the recent assembly elections.
