Pranab Mukherjee – the elder statesman of Indian politics, former President of India and Bharat Ratna has died at 84 after battling a long illness after he was admitted to New Delhi’ Army Hospital Research and Referral 3 weeks ago. Pranab Mukherjee will be cremated in New Delhi on today. The body of Pranab Mukherjee will be kept at his official residence in the morning hours on Tuesday for people to pay their last homage. He died more than 20 days after undergoing a brain surgery to remove clot. He was on ventilator since the surgery. Pranab’ son, former legislator Abhijeet Mukherjee tweeted on Monday evening that his father had died.
Pranab Mukherjee who had tested +ive for coronavirus, had been in coma after a brain surgery earlier this month. Leaders from all walks of life mourned the political stalwart.
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Army Chief General MM Naravane, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh paid last respects to Pranab Mukherjee, at his residence.
The flags at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament fly at half-mast as seven day State mourning is being observed in the country following the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee.
