A horse had a head-on collision and died during the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil epic historical  and action drama Ponniyin Selvan, which is progressing at the brisk pace  in Hyderabad.  According to the latest report, Abdullapurmet police have registered an FIR against Mani Ratnam’ Madras Talkies and the owner of the horse. And Animal Welfare Board  of India- AWBI calls for enquiry into the incident, based on complaints by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.

The FIR was registered against the production firm on 18th August over the incident that took place on 11th August, but it came to light on 2nd September.

PETA India alleged that the horse was tired and dehydrated and lost its life due to continuous shoot of Mani Ratnam’ film Ponniyin Selvan. PETA India requested all Animal Welfare Board of India- AWBI to issue the  strict orders to all filmmakers to avoid using the real animals and use computer graphics instead.

The sources say that the makers of Ponniyin Selvan were shooting an important sequence at a specially erected set in Hyderabad. A fleet of horses was booked for shooting. While during the shoot, one of the horses collapsed and died. The police booked the case under section 429 of PCA act, 1960 Section 11 and 1860 of IPC.
