To challenge the ruling BJP-led NDA in this year’s presidential election, the rival parties in India are making dissatisfactory attempts. The ruling combine is self-assured of its victory with 49% votes on its hand, though the BJP hadn’t yet named its candidate. The BJP-led NDA is running short of 2.5% votes to win, it has about 7% votes assured by the non-allies.
The Andhra Pradesh YSR Congress with 4.22% votes and the Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal with 2.94% votes have sworn to support the NDA nominee from outside. Being away from the victory, the Congress-led UPA has 24.02% votes. The chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has 5.44% votes and the left parties have another 2.68% votes.
Farooq Abdullah, who is the chief of National Congress also got out of the race. On Monday, Gopala Krishna Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi also refused to be the opposition candidate. The opposition remains desolate handed, with the parties showing reluctance to take part in the alliance and the candidate refusing to come forward to contest.
