Based on the 1955 novel by author Kalki Krishnamurthy, the Tamil historical drama Ponniyin Selvan  was released on 30th Spetember and received a positive response from the critics and the audiences. The movie is all about  the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, a powerful king of the south who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.  It is bankrolled by Mani  Ratnam’s production house Madras Talkies and Allirajah Subaskaran’s banner Lyca Productions,  the big budget drama was released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Ponniyin Selvan Box office collections: Mani Ratnam’  directorial Ponniyin Selvan starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi is going strong at the ticket counters. The big budget drama was released in theatres across the globe in five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.  According to the traders report, Ponniyin Selvan has beaten  SS Rajamouli’ RRR total admissions at the box office of France. The industry tracker  Ramesh Bala confirmed the same by sharing a post on Twitter: #PS1 has crossed #RRR ‘s total admissions in France All set to cross #Vikram soon..

On Saturday, it collected gross Rs 38 crore in India (all languages). Among the five languages, the film collected  Rs 27.6 crore in the Tamil version, Rs 3.45 crore in Telugu, Rs 2.85 cr in Hindi and Rs 70 lakh in Malayalam versions. It went on to collect Rs 70 crore gross worldwide on day 2, taking its two day-total gross worldwide collection to Rs 153 crore. In 3 days the movie crossed the collections of Rs 230 Cr at the worldwide box office.

Mani Ratnam’s historical drama Ponniyin Selvan, based on Kalki’s works, revolves around the political turbulence in Chola Kingdoms. The second part of PS  is expected to release in 2023.

Two noted celebrities launched Allu Ramalingaiah book

Everyone is aware of the launch of Allu Studios that took place in Hyderabad yesterday. It was inaugurated on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary comedy actor Allu Ramalingaiah, by his son-in-law Megastar Chiranjeevi. 

Now, the latest news is that a book was launched on the late actor at Park Hyatt in Hyderabad later on the same day. A grand event was held by some officials of the film industry, for which the former vice president M Venkaiah Naidu attended as the chief guest. 

Naidu handed over the book to Chiranjeevi among the family members of Allu Ramalingaiah. The event was a star-studded hungama with the presence of thirteen comedians along with noted personalities like Ram Charan, Trivikram Srinivas, Sai Dharam Tej and others.

Allu Ramalingaiah was honoured with the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema. In 1998, he received the FilmfareLifetime Achievement Award in 2001. The Allu Ramalingaiah National Award was instituted in his memory by the Allu Ramalingaiah Academy of Arts.
