Samantha Akkineni starrer woman centric movie U Turn, is ending as disaster at the box office. U Turn, the bilingual Tamil-Telugu movie, directed by Pawan Kumar, was released on 13th September and received mixed response by the movie lovers and critics on its opening day and till date, U Turn has collected the distributor share of Rs 50 lakhs in it’s second weekend taking cumulative total to Rs 4.50 Cr against the valued theatricals of 7.50 Cr. It is turning out disaster. This year Samantha delivered three movies, Rangasthalam, Mahanati and Abhimanyudu, which were hit at the box office but her U Turn, the woman centric murder mystery drama, is disaster at the box office. Is Samantha not able to carry the responsibility of her movie?
On the otherside, Nayantara with her ‘Aramm’ and Anushka with her ‘Bhaagamathie’ have proved that they can carry off a film on their shoulders and bring in the audience to theatres. They took the place of the ‘hero’ in films and are lauded for doing a great job too. They have been rightfully labelled ‘Lady Superstars’. When will Samantha get the title of Lady Superstar?
Nayantara can essay glamorous roles just as easily as the girl-next-door ones and as a result can portray a wide range of characters on the screen. Whether it is ‘Maya’, ‘Dora’ or ‘Aramm’, she has proved that she can bring the audience to the theatres just as any big hero can. Anushka Shetty has done several female-centric films (Arundhati, Rudhramadevi) in Tollywood.
Samantha starrer U Turn, competed with her hubby Akkineni Naga Chaitanya starrer Shailaja Reddy Alludu, which was also released on the same day 13th September but it also turning out flop at the box office. Shailaja Reddy Alludu has minted the distributor shares of Rs 1.10 Cr in it’s second weekend taking 11 days total to over 15.70 Cr. Theatrical rights of the film are valued at Rs 21 Cr.
Meanwhile Samantha and Naga Chaitanya strarrer upcoming untitled film, in the direction of Venky Atluri, will be launched on 6th October.
