Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha, Nithya Menen and Kajal Aggarwal, starrer Mersal, which was released on the occasion of Diwali 2017, went on to become a huge blockbuster. Now according to the latest update, Vijay won prestigious international award by International Achievement Recognitions Awards (IARA) for his wonderful performance in the movie.
Vijay beat three other foreign actors to achieve this rare feat. It is a proud moment for the entire Tamil Film Industry, and Thalapathy fans are already celebrating.
The ceremony took place on 22nd September at Hilton Hotel, Canary Wharf in London. However, actor Vijay did not attend the event.
Last year, Nigerian actor Oc Ukeje won the Best International Actor Award for his performance in The Arbitration, a 2016 Nigerian romantic drama.
Founded in 2014, International Achievement Recognitions Awards (IARA) honours outstanding talents within the arts and entertainment industry.
Vijay was also nominated for the Best Actor Award among actors like David Tennant (Don Juan in Soho), John Boyega (Star Wars:The Last Jedi), Chris Attoh (Swing), Jack Perry Jones (Bang), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Zack Morris (Eastenders) and Jamie Lomas (Hollyoaks) this year.
Mersal collected around Rs 251 Cr worldwide, coming next only to S Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2:The Conclusion.
Mersal is directed by Atlee and bankrolled by N Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani and H Murali, under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited. In this movie Vijay played the triple role.
