Sreedhar Sri has shared the first look poster of Jagapathi Babu on Twitter and captioned it, “First Look: #JagapathiBabu As #YSRajaReddy in #Yatra..!!! @70mmEntertains @MahiVraghav #YatraOnFeb8th.”
Yatra is all about Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. The film is written and directed by Mahi V Raghav. Malayalam Star Mammootty is playing the titular role and will make his screen presence as YSR. Sudheer Babu is playing YS Jaganmohan Reddy, Suhasini Maniratnam will be as Sabitha Indra Reddy. Apart from them, Yatra has other stars like Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar in supporting roles.
The sources close to film unit reveal that When Mahi V Raghav approached Jagapathi Babu to play the role of Raja Reddy, the father of YSR and gave the actor a narration, the latter liked it. After his powerful portrayal in the recently released Rangasthalam, the directorial venture of Sukumar, got a thunderous applause, the director thought Jagapathi Babu fits the part best.”
Unlike other biopics, Yatra does not chronicle the entire life of YSR. Instead, the story is just about the historic padayatra of YSR that changed the course of the Andhra Pradesh’s politics.
Yatra is based on YSR Reddy’s famous 1,500-km walkathon, which happened in 2003. The rally was a watershed moment in the politics of undivided Andhra Pradesh, is being bankrolled by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy.
On the work-side, Jagapathi Babu has multiple movies in his kitty. He will be next seen in periodic drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in which Megastar Chiranjeevi is playing the lead role. Apart from Sye Raa, Jagapathi Babu will also be seen in Viswasam and Madhuraraja.
