The social media giant- Twitter confirmed that a page which is linked to the account of India’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ personal website was hacked. The incident comes after several Twitter accounts of popular personalities were hacked in the month of July.
The Twitter account of India PM Modi’ personal website and the mobile app was hacked, the social media giant confirmed it on Thursday. Twitter said that it has taken “steps to secure the compromised account” and is “actively investigating” this situation. The Twitter account of Narendra Modi which goes by handle narendramodi_in, has 2.5M followers and over 37,000 tweets. It was created in the month of May 2011. The tweets, which have been taken down from there, asked the followers to donate to PM National Relief Fund through the crypto currency.
A twitter spoke man said, “We are aware of this activity and we have taken steps to secure the compromised account. We are investigating this situation. At this time, we are not aware of the additional accounts being impacted.”
Hackers had accessed Twitter’ internal systems to hijack some of the platform’ top voices including United States presidential candidate Joe Biden, billionaire Elon Musk, former United State President Barack Obama, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and used them to solicit digital currency in the month of July.
