
On Monday, Madhya Pradesh police booked two executives of OTT platform Netflix for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments by releasing a web-series ‘Suitable Boy’, for showing the kissing scenes filmed at the campus of temple in MP.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha national secretary Gaurav Tiwari. In his complaint, Gaurav said the kissing scenes were filmed in the temple where Shiv Linga and people singing bhajans can be seen in the background. Gaurav Tiwari demanded apology from Netflix and makers of the series and the removal of “objectionable scenes”.
In the kissing scene that prompted the complaint, the woman is Hindu and the man Muslim.
Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha national secretary Gaurav Tiwari said, “Kissing inside a temple of Lord Maheshwar hurt the sentiments of Hindus. This is also encouraging ‘love jihad’.”
The FIR has named Monika Shergill and Ambika Khurana. The FIR has been registered under section 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Rewa and the investigation is underway.
The 6 part Netflix series is directed by renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, who is known for her critically acclaimed movies such as “Monsoon Wedding”, “Salaam Bombay” and “The Namesake”.
Neither Netflix, the executives named nor the writer and crew of the series Suitable Boy Have reacted to this issue.
