Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was seen playing the lead role in an upcoming big budget Hindi film Rang De Basanti, which was helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and it was released in 2006. The director revealed that Daniel Craig auditioned for the role of James McKinley in Rang De Basanti.
Daniel Craig, best known for his role as the British spy, James Bond, would have been seen in a Hindi film, Yes, you read that right. He had auditioned for the role of the British jailor who walked freedom fighters Rajguru, Bhagat Singh, and Sukhdev to be hanged. However, he could not feature in this Hindi film as he was being considered to be the next James Bond that time.
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra penned down his life experiences in his autobiography ‘The Stranger In The Mirror’ which is co-written by the Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta. In this book, Rakeysh revealed that Daniel Craig had auditioned for the role of James McKinley in Rang De Basanti. But when he was approached for the role of James Bond at the same time, he requested some time.
The director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has been in news for his recent film Toofaan, in which Farhan Akhtar plays the lead role.
