The doctors at Narayana Nethralaya have ensured that not just 1 or 2 but 4 people have got their vision back due to late actor Puneeth Rajkumar’ eye donation. The Kannada actor passed away on Friday due to a heart attack and his mortal remains were laid rest on Sunday with state honors.
Even in his death, Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar gifted eyesight to the four persons. Doctors at Narayana Nethralaya, who collected the late actor Puneeth Rajkunar’ corneas, said they sliced the corneas and transplanted them in four corneal blind patients. We have already reported that Puneeth’ father Rajkumar had pledged the eyes of his entire family in 1994.
Dr Bhujanga Shetty explained the procedures and said that the advanced corneas transplant called Lamellar Keratoplasty. The team of doctors led by Dr Yathish Shivanna and Sharon D Souza team performed this surgery. Puneeth’ corneas were sliced into a superior layer and a deep layer for two recipients and from another eye, the same was done to help two more recipients.
The surgery was performed at the hospital campus on Saturday in a 7 hour operation from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm.
