Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu starrer action and thriller movie Athidhi completed 13 years as it was released on 18th October 2007. The film Athidhi had Amrita Rao as a leading lady. Mahesh Babu starrer was helmed by Surender Reddy of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy fame and bankrolled by G Ramesh Babu, the brother of Mahesh Babu, under the banner of Krishna Pictures Private Limited.
Athidhi became a super hit at the box office and the actress Amrita Rao was touted to be the next big thing in the film industry. But unfortunately Amrita Rao was never seen in a Tollywood movie again. And after a while, Amrita fizzled out of Hindi film industry as well, despite bagging movies like Main Hoon Na and Vivaah starring Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor, respectively. Amrita’ comeback as Bal Thakeray’s wife Meera Tai, in Nawazzuddin Siddique starrer Thackeray, was like breath of fresh air for her fans.
Mahesh Babu and Amrita Rao starrer Athidhi was remade in Bengali Bangladesh as Durdorsho Premik starring Shakib Khan and Apu Biswas in 2012.
The movie Athidhi opened with a gross collection of Rs 6 Cr on the first day and it collected a total of around Rs 16.70 share in the first four days of its release. Mahesh Babu starrer collected a final share amount of Rs 28 Cr in 2 weeks. Gross collections of the film went up to Rs 35 Cr.
