Kantara Movie Review : The Kannada film  Kantara created a good buzz in the past few days and has been dubbed in Telugu.  The Telugu version of Kantara arrived at the theaters today on 15th October. Let’s see the story of Kantara.

Story:  The film Kantara begins in 18th century with a king giving a piece of land to the villagers in exchange for peace and joy. Several decades later, the king’s descendant arrives at a Bhoota Kola and threatens tribals to return the land.   On the other side, the  forest officer Murali (Kishore) wants to put an end to the superstitious rituals and save the forest from the villagers. Shiva (Rishab Shetty), a hot-headed henchman, stands up for the entire village and he takes responsibility and revolts against them. Leela (Sapthami Gowda) is appointed as a forest guard. Is Murali the real villain or just a dummy bait cast by bigger fish? Will Shiva save the forest from Murali? What does landlord Devendra Suttur (Achyuth Kumar) have in mind when he helps villagers? To get these answers, one should watch the movie on silver screen.

Plus Points:

·         Rishab Shetty’ performance

·         Casting

·         Direction

·         Cinematography

·         Climax

 Minus points:

·         Run time

Performance:  The Film Kantara is full of excellent performances from the cast. Be it Rishab Shetty or Kishore or Achyuth Kumar or Sapthami Gowda, they have given their fantastic performances. Rishab Shetty is completely terrific  in this film in the role of Shiva. Kishore gives an equally powerful performance as forest officer. His bald, clean shaven look adds gravitas to his character. Saptami Gowda put up a decent show. Achyut Kumar, as a cunning landlord, is fine. Praveen Tumbe, Pramod Shetty,  and others have play impactful fillers.

Technical: Kantara has technical brilliance. The cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap is exceptional. The framing and the lighting add value to this period drama Kantara. Ajaneesh Loknath’ music is highlighted. Another major asset of Kantara is its sound design. The production design of this film  is terrific and the arresting visuals hold  the viewers. Set in a deep forest, the filming of Kolam sequences and buffalo races are mesmerizing.  A lot of attention is given to the making,  which is dipped in folklore.

Analysis:  Kantara is a visual grandeur. Rishab Shetty’s performance and the adrenaline pumping climax are major assets. The drinking sequences and comedy scenes are quite boring as well.  The film’s story is predictable and  it has a lengthy runtime.
