Mani Ratnam’ directorial venture Ponniyin Selvan 1 is on a historic run. The period epic starring Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has become the third film after Baahubali 2 and Vikram in the history of Tamil Nadu to clock Rs. 150 crore in the state. On its 9th day, Ponniyin Selvan 1 has surpassed the lifetime collections of Baahubali 2 (Rs 155 crores) in Tamil Nadu. Now according to the latest report, Ponniyin Selvan 1 has crossed Rs 400 Cr marks at the worldwide box office after the successful run on 11 days. Mani Ratnam’ magnum opus the third film after Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 and Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram to achieve this feat.
The Industry tracker Ramesh Bala took to his twitter and shared the collections figure of Ponniyin Selvan1, “#PS1 joins the exclusive Rs 400 Crs WW Gross Club.. Only the 3rd #Kollywood movie after #2Point0 and #Vikram to join the club!”
According to Ramesh Bala, the film Ponniyin Selvan 1 is a blockbuster in the USA, UK, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia by becoming the highest grossing Tamil movie. This is indeed a huge achievement for a Tamil film.
Written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, Cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and composer AR Rahman form the technical crew.
