Tamil folk singer and actress Paravai Muniyamma honored by the Tamil Nadu Government in 2019 passed away in Madurai. According to the latest update, the folk singer passed away at her home last night, on 28th March.
Paravai Muniyamma died at 83 and is survived by her son and grandchildren. The singer Paravai Muniyamma was honoured by the Tamil Nadu Government in 2019 with the Kalaimamani award. she was suffering from age-related illnesses for a while.
In the film industry, Paravai Muniyamma is popular for the Singam Pola number from Vikram-Dharani’s Dhool.
Paravai Muniyamma who hails from the village of Paravai in Madurai, started her singing career by performing in temple, and slowly she headed the international circuit under the aegis of popular light music troupe, Lakshman Shruthi.
The music director Vidyasagar introduced Muniyamma to movies, she was approached by many composers even before that, including Oscar award winning music director AR Rahman for Muthu. She has been the part of few movies such as Thoranai, Kovil, Thamizh Padam, Maan Karate, Venghai, and Veeram. She also enjoyed a stint in television where she hosted a cooking show that not only highlighted the traditional food of Tamil Nadu but also folk music.
The last rites of Paravai Muniyamma is expected to happen later today in Madurai.
