Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan passed away in Mumbai. She breathed her last on Friday at around 1:52 am at the Guru Nanak Hospital at Bandra due to cardiac arrest. The choreographer was 72. The three time National Award winner Saroj Khan choreographed nearly 2000 songs.
Her popular tracks, including Dola Re Dola from Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘ directorial venture Devdas, Ye Ishq Haaye from the movie Jab We Met, Tabaah Hogaye, featuring Madhuri Madhuri from Karan Johar’s production Kalank, Ek Do Teen from Madhuri Dixit starrer Tezaab. She is also well known face for the Telugu people as she has worked in Tollywood also with all the major stars including Nandamuri Balakrishna, Megastar Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh Daggubati, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Superstar Mahesh Babu.
The choreographer Saroj Khan was born as Nirmala Nagpal. She joined the Indian film industry as a child artist, playing the younger Shyama in Nazarana. Later she became a background dancer in 1950s films like Bimal Roy’ Madhumati under the guidance of B Sohanlal. Later she became an assistant choreographer and her first break as an independent choreographer came with Geeta Mera Naam in 1974. Saroj became popular with the song “Hawa Hawai” from Anil Kapoor starrer Mr India.
Saroj Khan is survived by her husband B Sohanlal, son Hamid Khan and daughters Sukyna Khan and Hina Khan.
