Actress Chitra who is best known for her work in Tamil and Malayalam film industry, passed away at her residence in Chennai. She suffered a heart attack. Chitra was 56 and she is survived by her husband Vijayaraghavan and daughter Mahalakshmi. She has also acted in Tamil TV shows. Chitra had also acted in over 100 movies across multiple languages. Soon after the news about Chitra’ unfortunate demise broke out, several netizens took to social media to express their condolences to her family.
She started off her career with the Tamil drama Apoorva Raagangal which was released in 1975 in which versatile actor Kamal Haasan and Srividya played the lead roles. She also appeared in the 1975 Malayalam film Kalyanappanthal. She made her debut as an adult with Mohanlal and Prem Nazir in the 1983 movie Attakalasham.
Her popular movies are Aval Appadithan, Auto Raja, Krodham, Chinna Poove Mella Pesu, En Thangachi Padichava, Ethir Kattru, Engal Swamy Ayyappan, Chinnavar , Paarambariyam and Kabadi Kabadi.
Chitra is popularly referred to as Nallennai Chithra because of the popularity she attained with the advertisement of an oil company. Chitra has acted with the star opposite big actors both in Malayalam and Tamil.
