Former Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident just a few hours ago. The accident has taken place at Charoti in Palghar when his Mercedes was returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. As reported by the police, the accident happened around 3.15 pm when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. 4 people were present in the car, 2 died on spot and 2 were admitted to hospital.
Mistry is survived by his wife and two sons. One of his close family friends said that Mistry’s family members were abroad for a ceremony. The other two persons travelling with him, including the car driver were injured. All the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Gujarat. The body of Cyrus Mistry has been shifted to the Kasa Rural Hospital for postmortem.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and called the demise of Mistry untimely and shocking. He wrote that the former Tata chairman was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess.
The chairman of Tata sons, N. Chandrasekharan expressed condolences to the Mistry family and said he was deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of Cyrus Mistry. He said that Mistry had a passion for life and it is really tragic that he passed away at such a young age. Mistry worked as a chairman of Tata Group from 2012 to 2016. He had taken over as chairman in December after Ratan Tata’s retirement.
