Actor Potti Veeraiah, who is best known for his roles in the movies Jaganmohini and Gaja Donga, passed away in Hyderabad due to age related ailments. Potti Veeraiah was 74.
Potti Veeraiah was born in Phanigiri village in Telangana. He was forced to eke out a livelihood running a telephone booth at the Krishna Nagar in the city and lived in a single room house with his wife, by paying a rent of Rs 1,500. He wanted to go to Hyderabad to pursue further studies if he got through his school exam. But if Veeraiah failed, he wanted to become an actor. As fate would have it, Veeraiah failed in his exam and boarded a train to Madras with the ambition of becoming an actor as he had some stage experience. Many people laughed at Veeraiah when he left his town and many more, when he reached Madras.
Later Potti Veeraiah adapted his screen name to make a mark as a dwarf comedian. A dwarf by birth, Potti Veeraiah made his debut with Vittalacharya’s Aggi Dora which was released in 1967. Comedian Veeraiah has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam and Oriya films.
Potti Veeraiah has acted in over 500 movies in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam film industries. His popular movies are Yugandar, Gola Naagamma, Atthagari Petthanam, Gaja Donga, Raadhamma Pelli, and Tarzan Sundari, etc.
