FIR Movie Review: Vishnu Vishal, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Manjima Mohan starring FIR has arrived at the theaters today on 11th February.

Story: Irfan Ahmed (Vishnu Vishal) is a chemical engineer from IIT Madras and his mother Praveena Begum  (Maala Parvathy) is a lower level policewoman. Irfan is outspoken about a lot of things about religion.   He is frustrated that his religion is a concern during interviews.  A bomb blast in Hyderabad and Ifran Ahmad becomes the prime suspect. How Irfan Ahmad’s life changes and what is his connection with his girlfriend Archana (Reba Monica John) and whether his friend lawyer Prarthana (Manjima Mohan) able to prove his connection, forms the rest of the story of FIR.

Plus Points:

  • Story
  • Direction
  • Performance
  • BGM
  • Cinematography
  • Twists

Minus points:

  • Missing logic

Performance: Vishnu Vishal in the role of Irfan Ahmad delivers his best.  His expressions and emotions made a strong impact. His body language is perfect and he connected chords with the audiences. Parvathi performs well in the role of a mother of Vishnu Vishal. Razia Wilson in the  role of an aggressive NIA officer  is good.  Her portrayal of a Muslim intelligence agent is interesting. Anisha Qureshi  does her role well. Reba Monica John as Irfan’s girlfriend Archana is ok Gautham Menon as  NIA chief  and  Manjima Mohan as the lawyer Prarthana perform well. Praveen Kumar plays the role of Gunasekhar in a convincing manner.  Remaining cast of FIR play  their roles accordingly.

Technical:  FIR has smart and well-written twists. The movie  FIR strikes all the right notes in its first half with director Manu Anand smartly cutting between  the scenes from Irfan Ahmad’s life and the NIA’s investigation. The dialogues are powerful.  The director Manu Anand smartly weaves in real-life terror attacks, especially the Easter Sunday Colombo blasts.  The editing by GK Prasanna and the pulsating background score by Ashwath  ensure that the  movie FIR manages to move at a breakneck pace, and manage to stop us from thinking about  the logic and help  the film keep us engaged.

Analysis: Overall FIR is a thriller drama that is set against the backdrop of terrorism that talks about the fact that how wrong it is to blame  the entire section of people for terrifying acts that are committed by only few people from the same community.

Rating: 3/5
