In the first ODI of a 3-match series, Team India fought against the West Indies with all their perseverance. This is India’s 1000th One Day International (ODI) . India progressed strongly during the tournament and attained a dominant 6-wicket victory against the West Indies.
Riding on a quickfire 60 from captain Rohit Sharma and spin-bowling masterclass from Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, India contended their authority over Kieron Pollard-led West Indies.
In this year, this is the first victory attained by India after losing the last two tests and the 3 ODIs held in South Africa. Skipper Rohit got off to a mesmeric start, showing no signs of rust in spite of missing the tour of South Africa ascribed to a hamstring injury. Rohit hit a six and 10 boundaries in his master stroke of 60 that came in just 51 balls.
Along with Rohit, his new opening partner Ishan Kishan added 84 for the opening stand as they laid a strong foundation for the chase of the inferior quarry. After a unique 4-ball innings, India did stutter in the middle-overs as they lost former skipper Virat Kohli.
West Indies were reeling at 79 for 7 after Chahal ran through the middle-order after coming onto bowl in the 20th over but the visitors saved their face and posted an adequate total after Jason Holder devoted himself to a lone combat. The 2nd ODI will be held on February 9 in Ahmedabad between these two teams India and West Indies.
